Leslie de Meulles, Principal Counsel

Leslie de Meulles is the founder and principal counsel of LDM Law - a Sudbury based law firm serving clients in the Yukon and Ontario. Leslie's first career was in politics, serving as a senior policy advisor and communications advisor to an Ontario Cabinet Minister. After becoming a lawyer in 2017, she has worked with self-governing First Nations in British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon and Ontario where she brings her governance expertise to law and policy development, and Constitutional drafting. Leslie is also passionate about victim rights. She provides advice and representation to survivors of sexual assault and supports communities in their response to crime, whether through creating community impact statements or developing community policing initiatives. In addition to her law degree, Leslie holds a graduate degree in Political Theory from McGill University. She is licensed to practice law in Ontario and the Yukon and speaks English and French. She enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her partner, son, daughter and their dog, Max.

Indigenous Governance
We have nearly a decade of experience in drafting laws, Indigenous Constitutions, and policy and have the skills and expertise to set your Nation up for success. We provide good governance advice and include community input and consultation wherever appropriate. We specialize in negotiating with federal, provincial and territorial governments, particularly in negotiating responsibility-sharing agreements and plans for devolution.

Survivor Rights
If you are a survivor of sexual assault, you have rights in the criminal justice system under the Victim Bill of Rights. You have the right to representation in third party record and sexual history records application hearings. We have experience providing advice and representation as you navigate the criminal justice system.

Community Rights
If you are a community/community group affected by crime in your community - you have the right to submit a community impact statement (CIS) to criminal court at the accused's sentencing hearing. We specialize in helping communities and organizations create impactful, effective, and court-ready CIS, maximizing the chances of acceptance by the court. We hold community consultations and make sure your CIS follows the rules in the Criminal Code so that you have a powerful voice that makes the greatest impact.
